While I can't take credit for this idea, I think my take on it is pretty unique. This "rebel bass" was created using a vintage Power of the Force Millennium Falcon toy and salvaged bass guitar parts. Modifying the toy to fit the bass guitar neck was the biggest challenge. I accomplished this by adding a support structure inside the toy's upper half to connect the bridge and neck.
Once the neck and bridge were figured out it was only a matter of fixing the electronics of the original toy so that the lighting and sound effects worked and adding my own upgraded led's that would turn on when the jack is plugged in.
While I wanted the sound effects to play though the amp when it was connected, I just couldn't get that feature to work right with the first few attempts. On this build I conceded to just having the lights turn on with the jack plugged in, running on their own 12v battery pack seperate from the toy's original electronics. As for the guitar pickups, I chose a chrome humbucker and a salvaged bass guitar pickup. With both pickups wired to their own volume knobs and a shared tone, the player can "select" or blend the pickups with "jazz bass" style wiring.
Some of Devin's favorite features in this build (besides the lights and sounds) are the inclusion of a POTF Han Solo figure in the cockpit, the rebel insignia added to the headstock, and the removable radar dish.
While this guitar is already sold, we have several more Star Wars themed builds in our to-do list including a B-wing, Y-wing, and more! Be sure to follow our social media pages for up-to-date real time coverage of our builds.
Rebel Bass Mark 2
It happened to be purely coincidental that we found another POTF falcon for a decent price when somoene approached me about commissioning a star wars bass guitar as a gift for someone. Unfortunately I did not have the parts, but lucky for me, they had a bass guitar that was perfect for the project! I was able to cannibalize the donor rogue left handed bass for all the necessary parts and this beauty was born:
Since these builds I have constructed at least 10 more various Millennium Falcon Guitars AND figured out how to route the sound effect circuit through the amp while playing! They are much more complicated electronically but that added gimick is well worth the trouble in my opinion.
Other star wars themed guitars I've done include Darth Vader and C3PO carrying cases, Boba Fett's slave 1, the Naboo Starfighter, and Star Wars lunchbox ukuleles!
One of my most recent builds was a custom bass guitar headed for a customer in Australia. I get asked a lot how I construct these guitars so I filmed (nearly) the entire process and uploaded it to my youtube channel. Check it out below!
